The Premier of Guadalcanal Province, Hon. Willie Atu, accompanied by his Permanent Secretary and members of the Premier’s Office, conducted an official site visit to the Tina Hydro Development Project 9th April 2025 to observe the significant progress achieved.
The delegation toured various sections of the project site from the Dam site to the Powerhouse (tunnel portal) site, receiving detailed briefings from project supervisors and technical experts from Tina Hydro Limited and Hyundai Engineering Company. During the visit, Premier Atu expressed his satisfaction with the development’s advancement, highlighting the importance of Tina Hydro as a milestone in the province’s journey toward sustainable energy and economic growth.
“We are impressed with the professionalism and dedication of everyone involved in the project,” Hon Atu said. “Tina Hydro is not just about generating power — it’s about creating opportunities for our people and demonstrating that Guadalcanal can lead in renewable energy development.”
The Permanent Secretary also noted the project’s potential to foster local employment, infrastructure improvement, and broader socio-economic benefits for surrounding communities.
The Tina River Hydro Development Project, a landmark initiative for the Solomon Islands, aims to deliver clean, renewable energy to reduce reliance on diesel and lower electricity costs. With construction progressing steadily, project leaders remain confident that key milestones will be achieved on schedule.
The visit underscores the Guadalcanal Provincial Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable development initiatives and ensuring transparency and community involvement in major infrastructure projects.

The Tina River Hydropower Development Project is led by the Solomon Islands Government, with financing and support from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the Asian Development Bank, the Government of Australia, the Green Climate Fund, Korea EX-IM Economic Development Cooperation Fund, and the World Bank.
