The Tina River Hydropower Project Office participated in the 2025 Annual National Trade Fair held from 2nd to 9th July in Honiara. This year’s theme, “Trade for Transformation: Rebuilding Our Happy Isles,” provided a platform to promote national development initiatives and public engagement.
The Project Office collaborated with the Community Benefit Sharing Project 2 (CBSP 2) and Tina Hydropower Limited to showcase the project's progress and its contributions to sustainable energy development in the Solomon Islands.
Participation in the trade fair enabled the project team to engage directly with the public, providing updates on construction milestones, environmental safeguards, and the wide-reaching benefits of the hydropower project for local communities. The event also served as a valuable opportunity to raise awareness about the broader objectives of the Tina River Hydropower Development Project, including long-term energy security and socio-economic growth.
The team reported strong interest and support from visitors, highlighting the importance of ongoing community outreach and transparent communication as the project continues to advance.
The week-long event gave the project team the opportunity to reach a wider audience — including many individuals who previously had limited understanding of the project. A visitor to the stall expressed his appreciation, saying the display helped him grasp not only the project’s purpose but also the reasons behind its lengthy timeline.
“I now understand why this project is time-consuming — it’s a big development and building a hydropower system as huge as this will take time,” he said.
The project ended the weeklong event satisfied with the outcome this trade fair and will be looking forward to more events like this that will help the project interact more with the public.
