šŸ“¢TRHDP Reviews Progress and Outlines Next Steps Following Q2 2025 SIMP Results.

The Project Office (PO), recently hosted a stakeholder session where the PO-ESSM conducted a presentation session on the findings from the Project Office Social Impact Monitoring Plan (SIMP) implementation for Quarter-2 of 2025. The session provided a valuable opportunity to share key observations and outlined next steps based on feedback from communities affected by the project. Stakeholders from Solomon Power, Tina Hydropower Limited and Hyundai Engineering Corporation attended the session.

The SIMP is a critical tool for tracking changes in community wellbeing, cultural cohesion, and environmental quality compared to the pre-project baseline. Presenting these results to the wider stakeholder group ensures transparency, shared understanding, and timely responses hallmarks of TRHDP’s adaptive management approach. By reviewing community feedback collectively, the Project Office enables stakeholders to take informed and coordinated action.

The meeting highlighted several ongoing challenges raised by downstream communities in the Malango area, particularly related to environmental concerns. Despite these issues, there were also encouraging signs of progress. Tribal cohesion appears to be strengthening, with more elders and traditional leaders actively involved in community discussions. A steady improvement in household relationships and mutual support suggests ongoing resilience and social unity within these communities.

During the presentation, Mr. Sahibzada Ahmed, outlined practical next steps for both THL and HEC. THL will focus on reinforcing environmental mitigation measures and improving communication with communities on priority concerns. HEC has committed to enhancing environmental control at work sites and assisting with identifying local women for future training and upskilling opportunities. A follow-up coordination meeting will be held in the coming days to finalise responsibilities and ensure timely implementation of agreed actions.

This session reinforced TRHDP’s commitment to ensuring that community voices directly influence project decisions. By sharing SIMP results openly and acting on them quickly, the Project Office and its partners aim to safeguard both environmental and social outcomes while fostering stronger relationships with the communities they serve.
