🔬 KGVI Form 6 Science Students Inspired by Tina River Hydropower Visit! ⚡

A group of Form 6 Science students and two Science Teachers from King George VI National Secondary School visited the Tina River Hydropower Project on Monday 11 August 2025 — Solomon Islands’ largest renewable energy initiative.

Organised by the Tina Hydropower Development Project Office with excellent support from the Developer, Tina Hydropower Limited (THL) and Engineering Procurement and Construction Contractor, Hyundai Engineering Company, the students toured the dam construction site and powerhouse site, engaging with engineers and environmental experts. They explored real-world applications of science and discovered exciting career pathways in renewable energy, engineering, and environmental science.

THL made a presentation which included a video on the various components of the Hydro Plant and its specifications. The Project Manager of the Project Office explained to the visitors the calculations for the total power and the annual energy output from the Hydro scheme. The students showed immense interest and asked pertinent questions on the dam site selection process.

The visitors appreciated how GOD’s energy will deliver cleaner, more affordable power to Honiara and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

đź’¬ Students Rebekah and Rachel shared how the visit sparked their interest in technology and motivated them to pursue their goals in science and engineering.

👷‍♂️ Mr Pradip Verma, Project Manager, said more student visits are planned to inspire the next generation of Solomon Islands’ scientists and engineers.
