Strengthening Biodiversity Partnerships on Guadalcanal 🌿🦜.

The Tina Hydro Development Project-Project Office and our concessional funding partners from World Bank, and Asian Development Bank recently conducted a site visit to Toledo Zoo at GPPOL 2, Guadalcanal Province. This is part of the ongoing engagement to support biodiversity conservation and environmental stewardship activities linked to the Tina River Hydropower Development Project. The visit was accompanied by representatives from Stantec NZ, and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) team members.

The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the role of Toledo Zoo in supporting the captive breeding of Santa Cruz Ground Dove and to explore opportunities for conservation awareness. Toledo Zoo is currently playing a critical role in caring for native wildlife.

This is critical for the exploration of potential areas of collaboration as Tina Hydro Project Office is seeking active partnership to contribute to long‑term environmental outcomes and habitat rehabilitation initiatives.

The Project Office interest lies beyond just birds but also is keen on exploring opportunities and partnerships that can aid the breeding and raising of endemic and critical list species for rehabilitation of the Coreland .

Discussions highlighted the importance of locally based conservation facilities in strengthening institutional partnerships, building local capacity, and complementing broader rehabilitation and biodiversity management efforts.
