Connecting Women with the Transmission Line Project.
The Belaha Women’s Association held its first monthly meeting at Belaha Community on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, as part of the Tina River Hydropower Development Project (TRHDP) Gender Component’s ongoing engagement with women’s associations in project-affected communities.
A key focus of the meeting was an update from Reeves Envico, the contractor undertaking the transmission line works. Reeves provided information on planned activities, upcoming works and what communities can expect as the transmission line component progresses.
The update provided an opportunity for members of the Belaha Women’s Association to gain a better understanding of the transmission line works and discuss how the Association can establish links with the project and potential opportunities arising during implementation.
As an organized community-based association, the Belaha Women’s Association provides a platform through which women can collectively communicate their interests, skills, and capacities. Discussions explored potential areas of linkage with the transmission line works, including local supply of goods and services, catering and food supply, skills development and training, and other community-based services that may be relevant to project activities.
The engagement also provided Reeves with an opportunity to better understand the skills, existing businesses, interests, and capabilities of women within the Belaha community, strengthening communication and potential linkages between the contractor and local women.
Strengthening the Women’s Association.
In addition to the transmission line update, the women reflected on the progress of their Association, including achievements to date, areas that are working well, and aspects that could be further strengthened.
Members discussed key areas including leadership and governance, membership, communication, record keeping, financial management and participation. The discussion also helped identify priority areas for future training, skills development, and organizational support.
Continuing Engagement Across Project-Affected Communities.
The monthly meeting forms part of the TRHDP Gender Component’s broader approach to strengthening the three legally established women’s associations in the project-affected communities and creating more structured opportunities for women to engage with the project and its stakeholders.
Similar monthly meetings will be held with the Malatoha Women’s Association and Mbahomea Women’s Association, with relevant project contractors and other stakeholders participating where appropriate.
These ongoing engagements will provide a regular platform for information sharing, dialogue, coordination, and identification of practical opportunities for women’s participation in project-related activities.
