Opposition Leader visits Tina Hydro project site.

Leader of Opposition Matthew Wale has visited the Tina Hydro Project on Wednesday 20th August 2025.

Hon Wale and his delegation were briefed on the development progress of the project as well as the challenges faced.

The Opposition Leader was also briefed on the community benefit initiatives flowing from the project.

After the briefing, Hon Wale was taken for a tour at the dam site and the powerhouse site by the Tina Hydro Limited CEO Mr Hanyong Cho, Tina River Hydropower Development Project Manager Mr Pradip Verma and the project management team.

Hon Wale has expressed gratitude on the current work on the ground.

The Opposition Leader said, the visit was a demonstration of the Opposition Group’s support for Tina hydro project.

He said, the project is a very important national development for Solomon Islands.

“The visit enabled us to appreciate the logistical, cost & engineering challenges of the project. It also provided insightful information on current developments, the complexities and significance of the project,” Hon Wale said.

The Opposition Leader also acknowledged briefings on the community benefits from the project. He said it is important that the landowner communities benefit from this project.

“I thank the Tina hydro project office, Hyundai Construction team, & other stakeholders for the important work they’re doing and for making our visit worthwhile,” he said.

Hon Wale has proposed another visit when the project enters its final stages before its commissioning. Tina River Hydropower Development Project Manager Mr Pradip Verma thanked the Opposition Leader for making time visit the project despite his busy schedule.

Mr Verma said his team is pleased to provide important updates and to show the project to the Opposition Leader.

“The project is progressing well and we want to keep on track and to commission it by 2028,” he said.

Mr Verma also acknowledged the support by the Opposition Group towards the milestone project. The visit by the Opposition Leader is part of his ongoing visits around the country to visit major national projects.
