On 17 August 2025. A huge Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) has arrived at the Tina River Hydro Project construction site—marking a major milestone in our journey towards clean, reliable energy for the nation!
The machine, when assembled will be 75 metres long and shall dig a 3.2 km long tunnel through gravel and sandstone to help build Solomon Islands’ first large-scale hydropower station.
Once complete in early 2028, the project will supply affordable and reliable electricity to meet about 70% of the electricity demand of Honiara and surroundings annually.
Project progress is now at 28%—and things are moving fast! Tunneling begins
later this year.
