At the Tina River Hydropower Project, the safety and wellbeing of every worker is paramount. This commitment extends beyond physical safety to ensuring that all workers are treated with dignity, respect, and protected from all forms of harm.
With a large, diverse workforce that is predominantly male and made up of both international and local workers, the project recognises the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone both men and women. In such a dynamic setting, clear awareness and strong safeguards are essential to protect all workers and uphold respectful behaviour across the workplace.
As part of this commitment, a Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH) awareness training was recently delivered for housekeeping and kitchen staff supporting the project. These frontline workers play a vital role, and ensuring they feel safe, informed, and empowered is critical.
The awareness training is being conducted by the project’s SEAH Focal Team, which represents all key project stakeholders. Following the team’s recent Training of Trainers on SEAH, the team is now actively rolling out SEAH awareness across all components of the project This collaborative approach ensures that prevention, response, and accountability are shared responsibilities across the entire project.
The training focused on several key areas:
Understanding what constitutes SEAH and why it must never be tolerated.
Reinforcing clear standards of behaviour expected from all workers.
Promoting the rights of all workers to feel safe and respected.
Strengthening awareness of confidential reporting pathways.
Encouraging a culture where speaking up is supported and protected.
Importantly, the project now has a Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in place, providing clear guidance on prevention, reporting, and response. This strengthens accountability and ensures that all concerns are handled safely, confidentially, and appropriately.
This initiative sends a clear message: there is zero tolerance for Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment at the Tina River Hydropower Project.
This training is part of an ongoing initiative that will continue to roll out across all components of the project, ensuring that every worker regardless of role or background has access to the knowledge and support needed to work safely.
Creating a safe workplace is a shared responsibility. By investing in awareness, strong systems, and worker empowerment, the Tina River Hydropower Project continues to build a culture where respect is non-negotiable and safety comes first.
