Tina River Hydropower Development Project: Representatives from the World Bank (Renee Berthome, Task Team Leader; Khine Wynn, Environmental Specialist; Marista Kapini, Social Development Specialist; Sam Ziokera, IT Specialist) conducted a site visit to the Tina River Hydropower Development Project on 4 December, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental protocols.
The visit, part of the Project Office’s weekly site inspections, brought together members of the Project Office team, including Mandus Boselalu (E&S Officer), Baltazare Rongo (CLO), Joel Zole (CLO), Sahibzada (new ESSM), and Daniel Tuhanuku (new Environmental and Social Coordinator). Representatives from Tina Hydropower Limited (THL), including Jaydol Jacob (THL's OHS Officer) and Ernest Kolly (OE’s E&S Officer), also joined the delegation.
During the visit, the team conducted thorough site inspections across multiple project lots, observing progress and identifying areas requiring immediate action. The World Bank Representatives observed notable progress in culvert development, tunnel excavation, and concrete pouring.
The site visit underscored the shared commitment of all stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of safety, environmental management, and sustainable construction. Immediate actions were recommended to address risks and to further improve site operations.
“We remain committed to ensuring that the Tina River Hydropower Development Project meets WB ESF standards,” said Shahibzada (PO ESSM). “The World Bank's visit reinforces all stakeholder's joint responsibility to deliver this project with transparency, safety, and sustainability at the forefront.”
The Project Office, alongside developers, contractors, and stakeholders, will act swiftly on the recommendations to enhance safety practices, strengthen environmental safeguards, and maintain construction momentum.
