SINU Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Visits Tina River Hydropower Project Sites.

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry (FAFF) Students and staff, together with the Tina River Hydro Development Project (TRHDP) stakeholders, conducted a joint visit to the Project Components 1 & 2 on 28 October 2025.

The delegation, led by the Environment &Social team from Tina Hydro Limited (THL) and Project Office (PO) TRHDP-MMERE, received a comprehensive briefing on the project's development progress and the environmental and social challenges faced during the construction phase. Key discussion focused on issues such as Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP), and the restoration of cleared areas across project sites and how the Project Developer is managing to overcome the impacts.

Following the briefing, the TRHDP stakeholders guided the invited delegation on a tour of several project sites. The visit included a tour of the dam construction site, tunnel and powerhouse there by providing students with first-hand exposure to a large-scale infrastructure development project. The E&S teams from both THL and PO accompanied the students throughout the visit, sharing insights and explanations Environmental and social matters.

Students from SINU-FAFF expressed their thoughtful appreciation for the opportunity, noting that the experience enhanced their understanding of how dams are designed, constructed and managed, particularly in relation to the environment and social considerations. 

In closing, the representatives from SINU-FAFF expressed their support for the Tina River Hydropower Project and expressed interest in future collaboration with TRHDP stakeholders.
