The Project Office (PO) recently hosted the Tina River Hydropower Development Project’s Social Impact Monitoring Plan (SIMP) Quarter 1 2026 Results Disclosure Meeting, convening key project stakeholders to share monitoring findings, discuss emerging social issues, and strengthen coordination for community engagement and monitoring activities.
The disclosure session was facilitated by the PO Social Monitoring Officer, Ms Adi Biliki, and attended by representatives from Solomon Power, Tina Hydropower Limited (THL), Hyundai Engineering Company (HEC), Community Benefits Sharing Project (CBSP 2), and the Project Office (PO). The meeting provided an important platform for stakeholders to collectively assess project-related social impacts, review community feedback, and agree on practical actions moving forward.
The SIMP remains one of the Project Office’s key tools for monitoring both positive and negative social impacts of the project. The disclosure process also reinforces transparency, accountability, and adaptive management by keeping stakeholders informed and responsive to issues raised by communities.

Figure 1: Expected social changes identified through SIMP monitoring, including economic shifts, community cohesion, cultural practice evolution, and representation gaps.
Key findings from Quarter 1 2026 identified several areas requiring continued attention and coordination, raised by downstream communities within the Bahomea area, primarily related to environmental concerns, tribal practices, and tribal cohesions, which are linked to alcohol abuse and unequal access to resources. Despite these uncertainties, there are also promising signs of progress. Economic and coping indicators increased during the reporting quarter due to local employment and supply of goods and services and improved infrastructure.
During the presentation, the PO-Environment and Social Safeguards Manager (ESSM), Mr Sahibzada Ahmed, outlined practical next steps for THL (Developer), HEC (Contractor) and CBSP 2. THL will focus on reinforcing environmental mitigation measures, improving communication with communities on priority concerns, and targeting youth engagement while also strengthening the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM). HEC has committed to enhancing environmental controls at work sites and supporting the identification of local women for livelihood and business training opportunities, with a focus on small enterprise development. CBSP 2 will conduct community consultations to clarify matters related to community shared projects. A follow-up coordination meeting will be held in the coming days to finalise responsibilities and ensure the timely implementation of agreed actions.
This session reinforced TRHDP’s commitment to ensuring that community voices directly influence project decisions. By sharing SIMP results transparently and acting on them quickly, the Project Office and its partners aim to safeguard both environmental and social outcomes while fostering stronger relationships with the communities they serve.
