The Tina River Hydropower Development Project (TRHDP) Gender Steering Committee convened its second meeting on 30 June 2026, bringing together key project stakeholders to review progress on gender initiatives and the implementation of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH) prevention measures across the project.
Held at the Solomon Power Conference Room in Ranadi, the meeting brought together representatives from the Tina River Hydropower Project Office (PO), Tina Hydropower Limited (THL), Hyundai Engineering Company (HEC), Sino Hydro Corporation Limited, the Community Benefit Sharing Project (CBSP II), and Solomon Power. The meeting provided an important platform to assess progress, share lessons learned, and identify practical actions to strengthen gender inclusion, awareness, reporting pathways, and survivor-centred support across project sites and surrounding communities.
The meeting was chaired by the Project Office Gender Focal Point, Ms. Ella Wairiu, who welcomed participants and provided a recap of the Gender Steering Committee meeting held on 16 June 2026 which focused on Employment rights and the Labour Act. Stakeholders then presented updates on gender-related activities and initiatives being implemented within their respective organisations.
A key highlight of the meeting was a presentation by THL Governance Lead, Ms. Fiona Rodie, on the implementation of the TRHDP SEAH Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which were formally adopted in January 2026. The presentation outlined progress in awareness raising, coordination arrangements, and reporting mechanisms designed to promote safe, respectful, and inclusive workplaces across the project.
The committee also noted the establishment of important monitoring and reporting tools, including a SEAH Rumour Register, regular focal point coordination meetings, risk-tracking processes, and strengthened reporting pathways. Members reaffirmed that continued collaboration, consistent awareness activities, and effective referral systems are essential to building confidence in reporting mechanisms and ensuring survivor centred responses.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue strengthening safeguarding measures, and inclusive workplace practices throughout project implementation. Through ongoing collaboration and coordinated action, TRHDP and its partners remain committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for workers and project-affected communities.
