Empowering women is more than creating opportunities, it means amplifying their voices, strengthening their leadership, and providing platforms where they can thrive. The formation of the Malatoha Women’s Association reflects the dedication and leadership of the women of Malatoha, whose commitment has been central to driving this initiative forward. Their efforts were supported with guidance from the Solomon Islands National Council of Women (SINCW), the Guadalcanal Provincial Council of Women (GPCW), and the Gender Team of the Tina River Hydropower Development Project (TRHDP).
On Tuesday, 18 November 2025, TRHDP, through its Gender Component, facilitated a consultation meeting at Mataruka Community Hall. The meeting focused on the Project’s impacts on women and supported the formal formation of the Malatoha Women’s Association. Women leaders from Malatoha, representatives from SINCW and GPCW, members of the Community Benefit Sharing Project (CBSP)-2, Tina Hydropower Limited, and Hyundai Engineering Company came together to attend the consultation and witness the formal establishment of the association.

The establishment of the Malatoha Women’s Association is a major milestone for community governance and inclusive development. Organized and legally recognized women’s groups strengthen internal cohesion and decision-making, gain a more consistent and influential voice in community affairs, and act as a bridge connecting rural women to provincial and national networks. This connection opens doors to advocacy, capacity-building, and institutional support.
Under its Gender Action Plan, the Tina River Hydropower Project will continue supporting institutional strengthening for women’s associations across host communities, including the Belaha and Bahomea Women’s Associations. This ensures that women are connected to project opportunities such as employment, procurement services, and other initiatives that promote women’s and community development.
The Tina River Hydropower Development Project, through its Gender Component, congratulates the newly elected Executive Committee and Board of the Malatoha Women’s Association. Your leadership marks an important step forward for women in the Malatoha region. TRHDP looks forward to working closely in partnership to advance women’s empowerment, strengthen institutional capacity, and build more resilient and inclusive communities connecting rural women to national networks.
