Tina River Hydropower Project Marks International Earth Day with Local Schools.

Malango Ward, Solomon Islands — April 23–24, 2026

Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. (HEC), together with Tina Hydropower Limited (THL) and the Project Office (PO), commemorated International Earth Day with a series of educational and environmental activities at Betivatu Community High School and Rate Community High School in Malango Ward.

The celebrations began on April 23rd at Betivatu Community High School and continued on April 24th at Rate Community High School. Both events brought together students, teachers, and community partners to highlight the importance of environmental protection and sustainable practices.

HEC and its partners delivered a presentation to students, focusing on global and local environmental challenges, the role of renewable energy, and the importance of community-driven action. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing students to engage directly with the presenters and deepen their understanding of environmental issues.

Following the presentations, participants joined a waste collection campaign within the school grounds. This practical activity reinforced the message of environmental responsibility and encouraged students to take immediate steps toward creating cleaner, healthier learning environments.

A spokesperson for HEC emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement: “Our collaboration with schools is part of a broader effort to inspire young people to become advocates for the environment. By working together, we can build a culture of responsibility and care for our planet.”

The Earth Day celebrations in Malango Ward underscored the value of partnerships between industry, schools, and communities in promoting environmental awareness. Through education and action, HEC, THL, and the Project Office continue to support initiatives that foster sustainable development in the Solomon Islands.
