CBSP Hosts Induction Training for Community Advisory Committee Members.

Honiara, Solomon Islands — January 20, 2026 — The Community Benefit Sharing Project (CBSP) successfully conducted its induction training for members of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) under its community benefit share fund (CBSF) component at the CBSP Conference Room. The training introduced the committee’s mission, vision, and responsibilities, ensuring members are equipped for their roles under the CBSF.

The Fund, which will be derived off revenues from the Tina Dam starting in 2028 aims to support socio-economic development and infrastructure community projects in Malango and Bahomea. By promoting sustainable development and fostering community participation, the Fund ensures that benefits from the TRHDP are equitably shared among community members in the project areas.

The induction was implemented to address the varying levels of knowledge among CAC members, most of whom possess only basic understanding of their roles. With few members having intermediate knowledge and none at an advanced level, the training was essential to build skills, align expectations with the Board, and strengthen the committee’s capacity to serve effectively.

Participants expressed appreciation for the training. Noelyn Biliki, from Mataruka Village in the Malango Area, explained that “the training helps us understand the basic concept of this job CAC, and the way it was presented was fitting for us as we all came from different backgrounds.” Similarly, Dale Ako from Horohotu Village in Bahomea noted that “this fund can make some changes in terms of community development that was unachievable before but now can be achieved.”

Trainer Lily Lomulo emphasized the importance of the session, stating that “it is important to understand the concept of the roles and responsibilities that will be played by the members. This training is very crucial to be introduced during this time as they have very basic knowledge when it comes to Governance, Occupational Health and Safety and Sustainable development. It is important that they understand the significance of their job as they are the link between community and the fund itself.”
