The Mbahomea Zone 3 Women’s Association has reached a historic milestone following the successful completion of a two-day leadership and governance training, concluding in the official launch of its constitution on Thursday, 23 April 2026 at Tina 3 Community, Mbahomea Region, Central Guadalcanal.
The event marks a significant step forward for the women of Mbahomea, signalling not only the conclusion of an intensive capacity building program but also the formal beginning of a new era of organized leadership, accountability, and collective action.
Building Strong Foundations for Leadership
The training brought together women leaders from across Mbahomea to strengthen their understanding of governance, leadership roles, and organizational management. Participants engaged in practical sessions covering key areas such as decision-making processes, financial transparency, roles and responsibilities of executive members, and the importance of inclusive participation.
A Constitution for Unity and Direction
The official launch of the constitution stands as a defining achievement for the Association. The document provides a clear framework to guide the operations, values, and long-term vision of the group. It establishes formal structures for leadership, outlines rules for accountability, and ensures that all members have a voice in decision-making.
For many members, this marks the first time their collective identity and governance system have been formally documented an important step toward strengthening unity and ensuring continuity for future generations.

Cultural Recognition and Community Support
A traditional Chupu ceremony was also held as part of the launch, bringing cultural significance and community recognition to the occasion. Chiefs from the community were invited to witness this historic moment, demonstrating respect for customary leadership and reinforcing the importance of unity between traditional and emerging governance structures.
In a strong show of support, the Chiefs responded positively, acknowledging and encouraging the leadership role women are taking in the development of Mbahomea. Their presence and endorsement highlighted a shared commitment to inclusive progress, where both men and women work together to strengthen the community.
Recognizing Women as Key Development Stakeholders
This initiative was made possible through support from the gender component of the Tina River Hydropower Development Project, which recognizes women as vital stakeholders in development. By investing in women’s leadership and governance capacity, the project reinforces the importance of inclusive development that empowers women to actively participate in shaping their communities.
